Can WhatsApp Business be used on multiple phones?
Yes. The WhatsApp Business app lets you link up to 4 devices to one account. A linked device can be a second phone, a tablet, a computer with WhatsApp Web, or the desktop app. All devices use the same business number and show the same chats. Your main phone stays the primary device: if it is not used for about 14 days, the linked devices are logged out.
How to use WhatsApp Business on two phones
- On the second phone, install the WhatsApp Business app. Do not register your number on it.
- Open the app on the second phone and choose the option to link it to an existing account (on Android it is in the menu at the top right of the welcome screen). A QR code appears.
- On your main phone, open WhatsApp Business, go to Settings (iPhone) or the menu (Android), then Linked devices and Link a device.
- Scan the QR code on the second phone. Your chats sync and the second phone works with the same number.
The same steps work for a tablet. For a computer, open web.whatsapp.com or the desktop app and scan the code shown there. To remove a device later, open Linked devices on the main phone and log it out.
WhatsApp Business multiple devices: what to know first
- Everyone sees everything. A linked device shows all chats, all contacts and their numbers, not only the customers you want that person to handle.
- No assignment. Nobody can see who is handling which chat, so two people may answer the same customer, or nobody does.
- Maximum 4 linked devices. For a larger team you need the Business API.
- Removing access is manual. When someone leaves, log out their device yourself.
WhatsApp Business multiple users on the same number: how many?
With the free app, one account can be used by at most 5 people at the same time: whoever holds the main phone plus up to 4 linked devices. There are no user accounts, roles or permissions inside the app. Every device logs in to the same account, so there is no separate admin, no list of agents and no record of who sent which reply. The person with the main phone is in practice the admin: only that phone can link and remove devices.
Can a WhatsApp Business account be shared, then? Yes, but only as one shared login. Never share the SMS verification code or move the number to another phone to give someone access: that logs out the main phone. Use Linked devices instead.
Multiple WhatsApp Business accounts: when you need a second number
Multiple users is not the same as multiple accounts. Each WhatsApp Business account needs its own phone number. You need a second account when you want separate numbers, for example one for sales and one for service, or one per branch. On many phones you can add a second account in the app settings, or use a dual-SIM phone. Two accounts still means two separate inboxes and two numbers for customers to remember. If the goal is that a coworker answers some customers, one number with linked devices or forwarding is usually simpler. More on that in second WhatsApp number or forwarding.
For a small office where everyone may read everything, linked devices are free and fine. For field workers who should only get customer questions, there are three options for multiple users on one number.
Option 1: linked devices
Free, up to 4 extra devices. Every employee sees every chat, every phone number and the history. Fine for a small office where everyone may see everything. Read exactly what you share with WhatsApp Web.
Option 2: WhatsApp Business API via a platform
Platforms such as Trengo, Superchat and Bird offer a team inbox for many users. They require Meta business verification, often a new number or a number migration, and charge a monthly platform fee plus Meta's per-message fees. A good fit for support teams with 5 or more agents.
Option 3: InBetween
No new number, no API. Your existing number stays, customer messages go automatically to the person doing the work, and replies go back from the business number. The coworker only sees customer messages, not your other chats. 30 days free, then free Basic or €87 / €142 per month.
| Linked devices | Business API platform | InBetween | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | Free | Platform fee + Meta fees | Free to €142/month |
| Keep existing number | Yes | Often not (migration) | Yes |
| Coworker sees all chats | Yes | Configurable | No, only customer messages |
| Setup time | Minutes | Days to weeks | Minutes |
| Suited to | Small office | Support desk, 5+ agents | Owner + one or more field workers |
How it works, in 3 steps
- Create an account at app.in-between.tech with your email address and a password. No card needed.
- Connect WhatsApp: scan the QR code or enter the pairing code, exactly like WhatsApp Web. Your phone keeps working as normal.
- Enter your coworker's number. From then on every customer message reaches your coworker. When they reply, the answer goes back to the customer from your business number.
Photos, locations, voice notes and documents come along. With Pause you stop forwarding temporarily, for example in the evening. Messages wait until you switch it back on.
Forward customer messages automatically. Replies go back from your number.

Can I use WhatsApp Business on 2 phones with the same number?
Yes. Link the second phone through Linked devices on your main phone. Both phones then show the same chats from the same number. You can link up to 4 devices in total.
Is there a free multi user WhatsApp Business option?
Yes. Linked devices are free and let up to 5 people use one number, but everyone sees every chat. InBetween has a free Basic plan for 25 customer messages per month after the 30-day trial.
How many users does InBetween support?
Basic has 1 coworker, Pro up to 2 and Pro+ up to 20. Each customer conversation goes to one coworker at a time, and you can switch it in the dashboard. For many agents answering side by side, a Business API platform is the better choice.
Is InBetween an official WhatsApp or Meta integration?
No. InBetween uses the same linked-device technology as WhatsApp Web. That is why it works with your existing number and without the WhatsApp Business API. If you need an official Meta integration, a Business API platform is the better fit.
